Pack with a Plan

Although the thought of writing a list of everything you want to bring doesn’t sound appealing, it is one of the easiest ways to help you make sure nothing gets left behind. As you plan your day at the beach, begin by writing down the items you need to bring. Then, when it comes time to pack (or shop) you have a point of reference regarding everything you need. Some of the basics for beach days include sunscreen, towels, swimsuits, and sunglasses. You may also want to bring food, and you should definitely have some drinking water on hand. If you are staying overnight, make sure to bring your toothbrush and Waterpik (check out these Waterpikwaterfloss reviews for some recommendations), any medications you need, and suitable clothing.

Don’t Over Schedule

While having some planned activities can be fun, try making room in your schedule to allow for delays or spontaneity. Over-scheduling can actually make the trip more stressful than restful, especially if things don’t go to plan. Give yourself some flexibility to adjust as the day progresses. That way, you can enjoy the trip based on what it is instead of comparing it to what you wanted it to be.

Don’t Get Tied Up in Reviews

A lot of people check travel reviews, such as those offered by TripAdvisor and Yelp, to help decide where to go. While these sites can provide excellent information, it is easy to get caught up in them. When reading this information, it is important to remember that almost every attraction will have some positive and negative reviews. That means you are unlikely to find a “perfect” place to stop regardless of your destination. Additionally, reviews aren’t your only source of information. Sometimes, you can get better recommendations by asking people who live and work locally to the beach you are visiting. If you stop by a gas station, hotel, or visitor’s center, ask the people who work there what they enjoy. You may find yourself directed to a hidden gem you would have otherwise missed.

Be Polite, Always

When you go to a beach, it is important to remember that you aren’t the only person there who is trying to enjoy their day. Other people are looking to dine at local restaurants, lounge on the beach sand, and generally enjoy themselves. While some people’s actions can be frustrating, especially during busy tourist seasons, it is important to remember that (generally) none of it is personal. Take a deep breath, and make an effort to be polite to those around you. Often, expressing your frustration won’t make you feel any better, but being polite can yield positive results.

Ditch Your Digital Device

Most people are chained to their devices. Whether it is a smartphone or tablet, it can almost feel weird to go anywhere without one. But bringing a device to the beach isn’t the best plan. The sand and surf can damage electronics, and may even cause them to fail. Whenever possible, leave your devices in a safe location that isn’t on the beach itself. Plus, it will make it easier to enjoy the company of those who came with you on the trip, and sometimes that is what a day at the beach is all about. With this list you will be ready to hit the beach in no time at all. Don’t let the stress of the beach take away your fun. Happy beach day!
