Let’s look at an example: you start pursuing a college degree and midway into it you discover that you’re no longer interested in pursuing it. You realize that you don’t like the career to which it is leading. After analyzing the situation you realize that if you continue with this career path you’ll end up miserable. Reading a book is the same. As you read the first few pages, you may realize that the book is not the kind you enjoy reading, is poorly written, or is not the book you need to read at this time in your life. What is the best option when you have this problem? Here’s a great rule you can use to help decide whether to keep reading or move on to another book. Use the “rule of fifty”! This is how to implement this rule: If you’re fifty years old or younger, read until you finish fifty pages. Then decide whether to commit to reading it or ditch it. Since you have generally less time to do things if you’re over fifty, subtract your age from one hundred. The difference is the number of pages you should read before making your decision. Follow this guideline and you won’t have a difficult time deciding whether or not to finish a book. Featured photo credit: Marian Vusiatytska/https://unsplash.com/ via unsplash.com
